And we’re Niagara Fallin’

“You’re doing a great job guys, just keep walking, you’re doing a great job.” A Maid of the Mist queue attendant.

Bid a warm adieu to Toronto at the Union Station, where we took the two-hour train ride to Niagara Falls.

Aah – what a glorious morning!, I thought whilst enjoying the beautiful Canadian landscape en-route. Just how many breathtaking moments would I enjoy at one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders? Arrived at the tiny Niagara Falls train station and took a taxi to our hostel, where we were met by an enthusiastic guy called Patrick. Never has man eulogised so much about a waterfall. Heckers, we were excited. Continue reading

Just taking the mic…

Hannah has commented upon my somewhat heavy-handed nature in her blog-post, detailing incidents which may or may not have occured in this week’s audio masterclass. The class’s purpose was to make us proficient in podcasting; part of City University’s aim to produce a cohort of confident bright young journalist-things, ready to tackle the new media age in which we will have to ply our trade.  Hannah and I did want to upload our stellar podcast onto her blog, but unfortunately we can’t get the file to open.

Which says a lot about our abilities as new-fangled multimedia journalists.

Quite an amusing little post from Etan…

… which I’m not just flagging up because I was also caught on camera by Mr Hamman, obviously…

Because… it encapsulates most things that are fantastic about Mr Bowie and you know it would have terrified you if you’d have seen it when you were eight.

T-t-t-t-Toronto

“Do you want me to film you with your muffin?” MB asks CB a perfectly innocent question in Timothy’s cafe whilst getting video-diary happy.

Eventually two very, very smelly girls made it to uptown Toronto, where we hailed a cab to our extremely colourful hostel (picked by CB because it “looked like Disneyland”). Showered and refreshed, we headed to a nearby restaurant for some alfresco dining, enjoying the breeze of a new continent whip around our shoulders whilst we troffed on calzones and drank beer. Snow-lo from London

While the severe snow hitting England is causing no end of hassle to people’s daily routines, it’s done wonders for community spirit down here in London, a city not exactly known for its amiable commuters. This morning’s walk to Angel, Islington was peppered with knowing giggles and pleasantries from complete strangers, which was absolutely lovely and made my day. The schoolboys on Essex Road even had a smile for me – even if this was rapidly followed by a hardcore pelting of snowballs aimed directly at my wooly-hatted head. Alas, my grip-less shoes meant I was unable to retaliate without risking further public shame, but onwards I went with a (half) smile on my face and a feeling of community warmth still entrenched in my heart.
